Blow Out, Sell Out
“Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket.”
— George Orwell
I am hereby boycotting all products and services I see advertised within a TV show, movie, etc, ie; product placement. Product placement is obnoxious, distracting, embarrassing and above all, shameful. It is essentially the director’s / producer’s way of letting the audience know, they have no integrity and care little for their “art.”
Although product placement has existed for quite some time, it seems to be becoming more and more prominent, thanks to Michael Bay and DVRs, or the ability to record live TV and subsequently fast forward through commercials. I understand the “need” to advertise (though I don’t agree with it), however if a director absolutely has to include product placement, it could at least be incorporated somewhat creatively or at least subtly. While this, instead, seems to be about the standard:
Advertising is annoying in it’s own right. Even if you’re looking for a certain product or service, the marketing is usually pretentious and exaggerative and again, at the very least, annoying. However, product placement is taking advertising to an abhorrent extreme.
